How to Easily Find Fonts for your Next Design

May 8, 2020 - By August van de Ven

When you start out as a junior designer, it can often be hard to find new, cool fonts that fit with your next project. You probably have tried to find fonts via Google and ended up on sites like dafont and 1001fonts. These sites, unfortunately, don’t make it very easy to find good fonts and many of them are only free for personal use. This means you can’t use them for your projects or designs which doesn’t make them very useful. When you want to find fonts for your projects you’ll have to make sure that the fonts are 100% free, also for commercial use or you’ll have to buy a license to use it. Luckily, there are many websites that make it a lot easier to find cool fonts that you can freely use in your projects. This is a list of some of the best sites to find fonts for your next design project.

Envato Elements

Envato is a platform that consists of multiple asset and service marketplaces and it’s a great place for finding new fonts. Envato Elements is the platform to use if you are looking to find cool fonts. The great thing about Envato Elements is that you only pay a monthly fee for an Envato Elements subscription and you get access to all the thousands of fonts that it has to offer. When you use one of their fonts after getting the subscription, you also get the commercial license. This means you can use it on your work and your personal project without worry. You can also be sure the fonts you are using are more unique and special and you’re supporting the creator as they aren’t as readily available as other platforms like Google Fonts.

Here are some examples of good looking fonts from Envato Elements:

Google Fonts

Google fonts has long been the go-to place for beginning designers to find a new font to use. They offer free fonts that anybody can use in their design and that’s why they have become so popular in such a short amount of time. This is great if you just started out but when you’re more experienced, it can become less obvious to use Google Fonts for the reason that it has become maybe a bit too popular. The fonts that they offer have often become over-used which makes it very hard to find any good, unique fonts on there. You can still find quite a few good ones on there, so be sure to check them out. If you are looking for basics, google fonts is an excellent place to find them.

FontSpace is another great place to look for new fonts. Especially if you are looking for more free fonts like they offer on Google Fonts, FontSpace has an enormous collection of free, commercial-use font. They claim to have the largest collection of free commercial-use fonts. The site also just had a redesign in march 2020 so the site looks nice and modern compared to the alternatives like 1001Fonts and Dafont.
